The result is a monumental album that evokes visions of a gigantic desert and the absolute solitude that it brings. Somewhere in that desert, a man is playing guitar. His loops and fuzzed-out drones roll over the desert and its violent history.
The album opens with the title track 'Conquistador'. With this track, Carson immediately sets the tone. Blues and American rock meet in a guitar-only frenzy of drones and riffs. Of course, Earth immediately comes to mind, along with thier colleagues from Om. Driving on a lingering guitar riff, this songs drags you out into the aforementioned desert. The rest is pure enjoyment for drone doom fans, a wild and heavy trip.
From then one, the album ripples on like one psychedelic big jam session. Here and there, the music bangs on the walls of the noise scene but as an accomplished drone artist, Carson continuously maintains his grip on the listener with intense and piercing riffs. My favorite track is 'Scorpions In Their Minds' but I'm sure that every fan of drone, doom and especially Earth, will undoubtedly embrace this new effort. So yes, this one comes highly recommended.
