Elenion Ancalima is an album by Italian atmospheric black metal project Emyn Muil, released on May 26. Forty one minutes long, the record has five tracks:  Under A Silvered Star, The Lay Of Númenorë, Ar-Pharazôn, Far Umbar and Elenion Ancalima. A marvelous and formidably conceived album, with a greatly shaped poetic outline, the monumental sonorous style of Emyn Muil brings back in the shadow of dark centuries a classic sentiment of eternal sensibilities, that are wonderfully amplified by a gigantic sense of terrifying beauty. With melodies carefully elaborated at the reliable scale of a graceful ecstasy, song after song, track after track, note after note, Elenion Ancalima proves itself to be eccentric, but imperiously solid state of the art material, greatly consolidated at the height of a precious grace, written at the subtle palace of a majestic conscience never seen by human eyes.

With the iconic characteristic that gives to this album the aspect of a sinister soundtrack to the dark prelude of an agonizingly doomed achievement, Elenion Ancalima gracefully interacts into its own sphere beyond the zone of confluence of conspicuously imminent melodies. With the grace of pervasively delusional shadows that rapidly materialize to consolidate the interlude of an eternal night, the harmonies on Elenion Ancalima enchant the listener not only by the expansively intrinsic nature of its rhythmic beauty, but also by the spontaneity of its subtle comprehensiveness about the compelling force of the human nature. In a vortex of correlated beauty, standardized by the bleakness of a world lost in the lethargy of its own agony, the marvelous style present on this record reinstates a calmer audacity that inserts a fantastic level of soul, content and relevance into the genre.

While the excessive calmness does harm the album a little – certain passages would hardly be qualified as black metal, even in an “atmospheric” category, given their higher level of softness – there is so much energy, artistic integrity, innovation, genre blending, experimentation and courageous authenticity here, that I certainly can label this marvelous album as almost perfect.

With a vigorous level of exponential, graceful, calm and transcendental greatness, Elenion Ancalima is a fantastic and sentimentally nostalgic album, full of inherent virtues, that qualifies the record as profoundly peculiar, given its higher level of melodically sinister depth into the atmospheric subcategory of BM.
