Despite the fact that their style is relatively simple, there is a modest and refined grandiosity in evidence, where their opalescent calmness collide with a profoundly energized sensibility. With melodies that can be severely brutal – but, paradoxically, quiet relaxing –, their sound revolves over an axis of mordacious and latent serenity, deconstructing a universe of evanescent beauty, throughout a journey of introspective audacity. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to deny that their sound, strictly speaking, follows a very conventional mood to some degree. Nevertheless, it has beauty, substance and consistence, and they know how to maintain in a moderately genuine standard their level of creative ambitions.
Realistically – in Point of origin –, you can’t expect anything too original, or out of the curve. But the album definitely achieves a modest level of excellence, scoring high in creative and technical competence. It’s a very enjoyable and satisfactory post rock album, where eviscerating and profusely dense melodies collide with the brutal and effervescent outlook of its own rude and tempestuous sonorous devices.
With abrasive guitar lines – that in the best moments delineates a whole new world of afflictive dissonances and disturbed cosmogonies –, Point of origin is one of those albums that contributed to close 2018 with a virtuous sense of accomplishment, turning the possibilities for the next year even more promising. Aggregating interesting passages to the genre, this album will not make you feel too hallucinated, but will definitely recharge your post rock necessities, in a moderate scale.
