Väsen is an album released on April 27 by Swedish black metal act Grá. Relatively concise, the record has almost forty-one minutes, and eight tracks: Till Sörjerskorna, King Of Decay, Hveðrungs Mær, Krig, Gjallarhorn, Dead Old Eyes, The Devil's Tribe and the title track, Väsen. A very direct to the point album, this work is an excellent, consciously dilapidated and formidable exemplar of the old school type of black metal. Despite the fact that it has some very sophisticated elements in what concerns melodies and structure,  being very distant from the more rude and raw black metal archetypes that certainly serves as its basic source of reference, the general musicianship of Grá is simply beyond extraordinary. It has everything we can expect from an astonishingly great work of the genre, and so much more than that!

With pungent, dense and inextricably sensitive, but virulent and tempestuous guitar lines, the general harmonies on this work are brutal and aggressive to a despondent extreme, although they do maintain a reflexive, philosophic and serene paradigm, that subtly communicates to the vicinities of your soul the presumptions of its surreal intentions. With sagacious compositions and exceedingly crafted melodies, the elegant and genuine form of the group’s music derives from an unusual creativity, that extracts the most sinister elements of the genre, but it has the audacity to aggregate to the polish sensibility of its anatomy a sonorous authenticity that generates an exhilarating consistency and beauty to the music.

A spectacular missive that makes the listener dive into the darkness of a world devoid of ordinary references, the somber and sinister symphonies present on Väsen is willing to corrode any prospects of normality inside your musical acknowledgments. Emerging deeply in a conjuncture of analytic statements that exhibits a great deal of technical and phenomenal procedures, the graceful abilities of this marvelous group showcases a sincere and wonderful degree of artistry, that certainly has all the necessary qualities to impress the enthusiasts of the genre.

Like a lugubrious panorama of eternal abysses made of crystal stones, the deeply innovative, audacious and furious music of Grá is a monumental treasure of unimaginable preciosity. With symmetric compositions, wonderfully written and executed, like sonorous ethereal passages whose poetic intonations drives sentimental raptures directly to the anxious twilights of your heart, Väsen is a mortifying album that perpetuates the most sophisticated type of black metal ever to be created, displayed with elegance, intelligence, creativity, sobriety and consistency.
