Ignominious is a black metal band from Hungary, influenced by mid nineties bands plus heavy, speed and thrash metal. If you know anything about the history of the scene, you know that those nineties were the golden age and Ignominious just wants to relive those. I can't blame them. I remember my days as a young extreme music fan. I devoured those 'World Domination' compilations. Frustration, depression and aggression finally had a place in my head, mostly accompagnied by blast beats. Ignominious does a pretty damn good job at recreating that vintage atmosphere too.
Not only does this album contain heaps of brutal screams, gut ripping guitars and pulverising drums, the band also manages to add plenty of variation, melody and songwriting skills. Opener 'Sacrilege' is very promising and what follows seems to get better and better until title track 'The Throne And The Altar' becomes the absolute highlight of this album. Ok, 'Foul Feast' might not be a black metal masterpiece as it is less powerful than most of the other tunes but I would still recommend this album. To whom? Well, to everyone who is nostalgic for those old days of soul reaping black metal. Check it out, you'd be surprised...pleasantly surprised.
