Kroda - Selbstwelt

Selbstwelt is the most recent album by Ukrainian black metal project Kroda. Almost forty-eight minutes long, the record has eight tracks: Credo, The Ritual At the Gates of Eternity, A Long Alone Pathway, Beyond the Life and Nonexistence, Egodeath, The Land of Selbst, Nordlandschaften and Like Some Snow-White Marble Eyes (Summoning Cover). With the extensive use of somber, melodic, melancholic and exceedingly harmonious guitar lines, the sound of Kroda is cleaner than what we usually testify on the genre. With ever changing rhythmic dissonances, and perfectly dilapidated harmonies that cover on the axis of its peripheral consistency a profusion of marvelously poetic intonations that confronts the darkness of its nature with the more humane splendor of its compassion, this album is a genuinely pure, inflictive and altruistic work of art, that has on the nucleus of its ardent flavor a compromising originality firmly attached to its solid and sincere musical principles.

With the elusive drama of the human condition discreetly situated at the framework of its ambitious melodic grievances, the sound of Kroda is pure and fantastic art that comes from the innermost spheres of the soul. The consistently dilapidated harmonies – sustained by profound rhythmic shadows of placid enchantment – contrasts deeply with the more somber outlook of its lugubrious nature, that becomes progressively saturated by the hyperbolic references and vicinities of its moonlight universe of solitary confinement as the music revolves around its own axis of disillusion and agony, although the colorful elements that prevail on the music are reflexes of an almost invisible melancholy, that is quite palpable and reticent, protuberant in the atmosphere of the music all the way through.

Being above every other qualities, an exceedingly poetic and philosophic work, SELBSTWELT is a very impressive, interesting and peculiar black metal album, that reinstates at the highest level of its patterns the serenity of a singular universe of punctual integrity and sonorous impeccability, that ostensibly creates at the perpetual realm of its authenticity an ardently unique and vigorous style, that elevates to a glorious standard the avant-garde principles of the genre.

A very compromised work, that marvelously comprehends the elevating scale of its groundbreaking uniqueness, Selbstwelt is a tremendously skilled, innovative, omniscient and imperative record, that ostensibly and vehemently establishes in the genre a new standard of excellence, that will hardly be crossed by any other artist, in the near future.
