Pnakotus is an album by Argentinian stoner rock group Los Yithians, released on May 27. A very concise album, it is only thirty two minutes long, and it has seven tracks: Cosmonauta, Sol de bronce, En las cenizas, Tharsis, Ruta satán, Coma Berenices and Sodoma. With several interesting particular qualities, Los Yithians is a group full of refreshingly pure peculiarities. Singing in their own native Spanish language, their songs doesn’t have the length normally attributed to stoner rock, being shorter and impressively objective, and their sound dynamics have also a more rapid and aggressive pace. While they do maintain the strongest virtues of the genre, these are reworked in a more brutal, dense and chaotic fashion, although their musical algorithms have pretty high standards, sidelined with a cohesive style inclined to surreal sympathies, that reworks and rereads – but at the same time profoundly respects –, the traditional features of stoner rock.

With a lucid degree of originality, and a musical virtuosity that attends the highest standards the genre could ever aspire to, Los Yithians has envisioned Pnakotus as a graceful, but highly skilled and powerfully emblematic pearl of the genre. With melodies that ascribe to a more intrinsic dynamic, the ostensibly engraved objectivity of the record – in a genre that usually has interminable moments of pointless uniform and repetitively dissonant musical passages – are remarkable and positively poignant points of genuine strength.

Musically, there are only qualities to highlight on this beautiful record. Each and every track is infused with a vigorous sense of clarifying intensity, that transmits a clear and acute message – that sounds ferocious, but imperatively modest and restrained at the same time – throughout pungent spiraling melodies, that transmits in a direct scale of pervasive intonations the openly fugacious devises of their abrasive music.

With a serious and incredibly conceived work, that establishes a more incisive and lacerating style of stoner rock, pervasively embellished at the epicenter of a marvelously creative and innovative musical approach, Los Yithians delivers in Pnakotus not just a great album, but a completely new form of conceiving, creating and revealing stoner rock.
