On the first night (in the magnificent Atelier 210 venue), Misþyrming was one of the co-headliners. With their bloodstained shirts on, they looked as if UPS had just shipped them over from Iceland in their coffins. As expected, they rolled over the audience like an Abrams tank, with DG screaming like an angry god.
Needless to say, I was quite curious to hear what they had cooked up with their new release, Algleymi (Icelandic for Oblivion). And I'm happy to report that I like this album a lot better than their previous effort. Compared to that one, Algleymi is less dissonant, the emphasis is now on melody. Don't worry, however, it's still heavy as hell. I especially like the guitar sound in some places; not too distorted, so you can make out the details of their weird riffing. And again, it strikes me how good of a singer DG is, his voice really takes this record to another level.
There's too many highlights on this record to single one out, just check opener Orgia, and you'll know what I mean.
A definite contender for my AOTY list, that's for sure.
