Dazzle Frost is an album released on December 12, by French black metal act Morgen Mist. Sixty-eight minutes long, the record has eleven tracks: North Arctic, The Sun Below The Ice, Dazzle Frost, Within From Dusk, Frozen Land, Abyss, Wisdom Of Silent, Eternity Snow, Freeze Under Sea, Last Panorama Of Sadness and South Antarctic. A sadly boring, conventional, exceedingly superficial record, Dazzle Frost is so terrible and completely devoid of qualities, that – unfortunately – there is nothing positive to be registered about this poorly generic work. Very, very bad and deficient, Morgen Mist even tries to imitate the low fi principle that became the sonorous trademark of black metal bands from the classic early nineties Norwegian scene, but this really doesn’t help. The album is so thoroughly mediocre that all that you hear is an undefined homogeneous noise, that stays exactly the same, all the time.

With noisy and common ground guitar lines – usually very slow – it’s impossible even to sleep with this album, despite the tedious monotony that you eventually feel. Probably the worst black metal album that I have ever heard, you can’t believe how bad it really is, until you listen to it. Not a single song saves itself, or at least, manages to be a little worse than the others. It’s just a lot of precarious noise tied altogether for the entire length of the album. They are so excruciatingly incompetent, that they never manage to sound brutal, though becomes quite clear that this what they were trying to do.

I wonder if this is lack of passion or audacity – or both. The album was definitely conceived without any passion or enthusiasm, and sounds thoroughly mechanical and exceptionally bad. And the times passes, but the album never ends. It’s just this annoying noise, that never comes to an end. I really can’t see anybody liking or writing something positive about this piece full of tasteless commonalities.

This is one from only a handful of albums that I personally qualify as a total waste of time. Generic, monotonous, dull, predictable and suffering from a brutal lack of creativity and a monumental absence of audacity and authenticity, you even might wonder if the people playing the instruments are really musicians. Professional musicians, they are certainly not. And if they are amateur musicians, definitely, they have a long, long way ahead of them for trying to develop serious musical skills. Definitely, this is one of the worst albums that I have ever heard. I will even try to forget that I have listened to this horrible record. Dazzle Frost definitely deserves the award of most mediocre black metal album of the year! Or, possibly, the worst black metal album ever released.
