Two enigmatic individuals, who go by the initials DB (all instruments) and H.V. (vocals, also Wormlust / Mystískaos), are responsible for this collection of songs, which can be filed under “Style: DSBM”.
And depressive, it surely is. As if nothing really matters, Negativa does not even bother to properly name their music, instead referring to them as numbers – like bastard offspring.
In this case, the record is called “03”, the songs range from XVII to XXII.
Anyway, if you like DSBM, you will appreciate this record a lot. While the production sounds pretty warm, with a prominent bass, the riffing and singing are ice-cold. This music is not meant to be enjoyed, instead a conscious effort is necessary to digest the songs. Negativa make no effort to sound hip, but just do their own thing. There’s no place for artistic wizardry here, just some sad stories to be told.
Fans of Silencer will feast on the bleak melodies in XVII and XIX. XXI features some dissonant riffs, echoeing the French school of Black Metal. This song ends with what could be an old film projector running out of celluloid. And album closer XXII, finally, is pure chaos, like looking in the head of a suicidal madman. Is it an easy record? Hell no, this needs time to grow on you...but inevitably, like a tumor in the brain, it will eventually overwhelm and consume you.
