It's cold, it has even been snowing a bit but you can feel that spring is just around the corner. I love the atmosphere of these days, especially when it's accompagnied with a splendid and dreamy ambient album. After all, you are not here to read about the weather in Belgium, are you?
R Beny is a producer from California, USA. After a few releases he now joins the Dauw stable, a DIY label from Ghent, Belgium. His music drives on modular synthesizers, tapes loops and field recordings. It places itself right into the minimal ambient scene, with its gentle soundscapes, its vague melodies and its gentle atmosphere. The eight tracks are rather short, unlike most ambient anthems I know, but they fit very well together, creating some sort of conceptual feel. Plus, you can easily play this album a few times in a row.
It's not easy to pick a favorite track, although I have to say that I really dig 'Streams Of Light' and the melancholic but playful 'Burl'. Along with all the others, these two will definitely end up in my day-to-day playlist, where they will find good company in Biosphere, Olafur Arnalds, Brian Eno and many more. I think 'Palo Colorado' and 'Brume' will feel quite well amongst these legendary names. So yes, this comes highly recommended to all you ambient aficionados out there.
