Everybody who knows Samael will immediately recognize them and on 'Hegemony' that is no different. The pounding drums, the grinding riffs and the hypnotic symphonic arrangements, they are all here. So is Vorph's voice. Even after thirty years, there is no wear and tear to be found. Songs like 'Hegemony', 'Rite Of Renewal' and 'Red Planet', no band could have turned them into more convincing pieces of music than Samael have. They still sound as fresh and unique as these Swiss have ever sounded.
'Black Supremacy' seems to be the fastest track on this album, complete with blast beats. Perhaps here, a reference to Limbonic Art can be made. Right after that one, my favorite track comes up, 'Murder Or Suicide'. Somehow, this one takes me back to those glorious and epic nineties. I can't believe it has been this long already. It feels like it was just last week when I saw these guys on Graspop. Nah, for real, Samael are back and they are still a force to be reckoned with. I can only recommend this album. If you have ever been a fan, you will love this album, period!
