Mythen, Mären, Pestilenz is an album released by Swiss raw black metal duo Ungfell. Forty eight minutes long, the record has ten tracks: Raubnest ufm Uetliberg, De Türst und s Wüetisheer, Oberlandmystik, Bluetmatt, Die Heidenburg, De Fluech vom Toggeli, Die Hexenbrut zu Nirgendheim, Guggisberglied, Der Ritter von Lasarraz and Raserei des Unholds. With a more crude black metal style – but nonetheless extremely well crafted and whimsically dilapidated rhythms – the sound of Ungfell can be described simultaneously as nostalgic, splendorous and chaotic, with somber, aggressive and derisive intonations, sidelined with afflictive, but seemingly discreet crust punk elements, that are greatly combined altogether to deliver to its audience a tremendously abrasive and hostile black metal record.

With direct and objective songs, that really works well on its structure the traditionally decisive sonorous sentences of the genre, Mythen, Mären, Pestilenz can be felt at first as a typical black metal album, although slowly showcases an abundance of distinct qualities, being easily classified as an intelligent, solemn, coherent, brutal and very solicit work, that definitely has very peculiar characteristics, and an audacious level of originality inserted on its musical expenditure. With a gloriously sonorous texture that concedes to its harmonious alignment a formidable level of rebellious artistry, Mythen, Mären, Pestilenz can be qualified as a very authentic work, with a degree of creativity that certainly surpasses ordinary black metal.

With poetic and frozen passages, that aggregates an inextricable level of sensibility into their music, Ungfell offers to its audience way more than aggressive guitar lines and afflictively acute razor blade vocals, adding a consistent and sensitive cosmogony into its music, that has soul, reliance and consistence in the anatomy of its flexible conjuncture. With a more complex style that wonderfully amalgamates raw black metal with avant-garde and folk elements, melodic intonations and philosophical intuitions, the Swiss duo really proves the singularity of their melancholic and somber art with this groundbreaking work of abrasive, sincere and striking originality.

A work that evidently cannot be neglected by the underground community, Mythen, Mären, Pestilenz will easily find its way to a very passionate and dedicated audience. With the shadows of time falling from a universe that is being gradually reduced to ashes, Ungfell revives the true aspirations of black metal, with this undertaking and masterful record of delightful and genuine sagacity.
