Ever since I stepped foot into the world of experimental and dark ambient, I have been interesting in the stories behind the other projects. I found my way to the genre through black and doom metal, more specifically the intros, outros and interludes. But other people seem to come from other directions. Urs Wild has been roaming in the world of electronic dance music. He has experimented with technical metal too but electronics are his first love. Nice note before we go into the music: this album comes with a booklet that explains everything about the music of Urs Wild. It's an interesting read and an interesting journey.

Right, onto the music because after all, that's why we are here. 'Behind The Mirror' is a long album, eighty-five minutes in total. There are twelve tracks to be discovered and they are all haunting dark ambient tunes. Opener 'Behind The Mirror' makes that clear from the very beginning, driving on drones, drones and more drones. If you like surfing on bass soundscapes, this thing is your ultimate chance, that's for sure.

'The Fallen Lady By The Lake Of Silver Moonlight' brings the noise, literally. Apart from the usual droning soundscapes, the track issues an abrasive noise line that will surely grab your attention. Yet, in all that impending chaos, there is melody to be find, something folkish, sweet and innocent. This is a brilliant tune but I can use some soothing after it. That is what 'Return To Nordland' delivers, although we're still drenched in utter darkness.

Coming from the world of electronic dance music, Urs Wild knows how do play with percussion, something you will notice quite often on this record. Not only does it add to the level of variation here, it also provides the whole thing with something narrative, like a storyline. The album calmly but forcefully continues its glaciar path of mental destruction. If Cold Meat would still be active, they would certainly sign this, but they're not so you'll have to get this on bandcamp. You really should, if you're a dark ambient fan. This will rip your soul to shreds.
