With very protuberant melodies, and a lugubrious atmosphere that never dissipates, Road North is a dense, but drastically diffusive album. With virtuous, slow and sensible guitar lines, that gradually involves all the disruptively draconian sensibilities of the sound, the creative style displayed by Eriksson is sagaciously proficient, though meticulously diligent, as the rhythm dissolves persistently throughout the most impenitent and tenacious elements of the structural diagram of the music.
With a deeply furious and voracious sound – way more aggressive than usually seen in the genre – Road North features much more organically designed melodies, that are primarily dynamic and rapid, exhibiting it’s rapturous rage in an extraordinary frequency, something atypical for traditional black metal, that normally relies more on expansive and somber atmospheres. Nevertheless, Vananidr successfully managed to conceive a very particular style of black metal, that departs from the graceful cohesion of his own intuitive creativity, showcasing a level of pragmatism and originality that is excellent enough to aggregate a distinctly profuse and dispersive conjunction of disruptive patterns into the genre.
A very tempestuous, fantastic and amazingly virtuous album, Road North has exceedingly prominent and genuine musical features, whose innovative qualities underline a tremendously great artistic potential, that certainly will present new and more distinctive qualities to black metal. Introducing to the genre stylistic possibilities that only a handful of other artists were audacious and innovative enough to explore and expose, Vananidr has revealed itself a prominent black metal project, that certainly will play a relevant part in future developments of the genre.
