Pallbearer release new track

Picture
While they prepare for the release of their third LP 'Heartless,' progressive doom giants Pallbearer have unveiled the album’s first single, 'Thorns'.

Recorded on analog tape at Fellowship Hall Sound in their hometown of Little Rock and mixed by Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool, Melvins, Soundgarden), 'Heartless' is grander in scope than anything Pallbearer have released prior, showcasing a natural progression that melds higher technicality and more ambitious structures with their most immediate hooks to date.

Look for this 7-song collection of monumental rock music to be released via Profound Lore in North America (in Europe from Nuclear Blast Entertainment) on March 24th, 2017 and see Pallbearer on tour in support of 'Heartless' in February and March (dates below).

Joel Gion releases new single

Picture
Joel Gion is releasing his new single 'Tomorrow' and apparently it is the psych rock tune we all need to welcome 2017.  Perhaps best known for his long and strange career as the legendary 'Tambourine Man' with The Brian Jonestown Massacre, in recent years, this percussionist has also emerged as a singer-songwriter in his own right. He has released various singles, as well as the well-received full length album 'Apple Bonkers'.

'Tomorrow' is being released ahead of Gion's forthcoming sophomore album, which should be released in early spring 2017. A reflection on the much maligned year that was 2016.

"I wrote and recorded it earlier this year while the Democratic party campaigns were the big topic... So the tune does some BS-calling out of the rising classism in the USA and at the same time sending a message out to not let things get you down too hard – but then nobody in the free-thinking world have ever dreamed things would wind up going this far south in the end," says Joel Gion. "Still, having said that, this is the only life you have, so you have to enjoy it no matter how stupid things get, ‘cause we always have each other and you always have yourself."

Ominous Eclipse reveal new track

Picture
Forging death metal with elements of thrash, groove, black, and melodic tones, Ottawa, ON's Ominous Eclipse will be unleashing later in 2017 their new album 'Sinister' to follow their 2015 debut album 'End of Days'. From the new album, the band revealed the first single 'The Horde'.

Vocalist/ guitarist Graham Murphy comments:

"The Horde is a relentlessly aggressive track, which we fueled all our energy into through blasting drums, screaming guitars, and rapid vocals shrieking brutal lyrics of epic proportions"

Malacoda release new video

Picture
Canadian horror inspired symphonic power metallers Malacoda (named after a demon from Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’) unleashed their new six track EP 'Ritualis Aeterna' this past December. The EP is the follow up to their well-received 2014 self-titled debut album. Packed with dark atmosphere, originality and innovation, this is gothic power metal for the 21st century with intelligence and intensity to rival that of their infernal inspirations.

Vocalist Lucas Di Mascio comments:

"The introspective video for Linger Here is a private look into the studio I (vocalist Luca Di Mascio) own (Old Haunt Recording Studio) where we write, rehearse and record all of our ideas."

Blood Command reveal new single

Picture
Blood Command have premiered the first single and title track from their forthcoming album 'Cult Drugs'.

Speaking about the single the band said, “‘Cult Drugs’ is about the reasons you think you have to do or mean something. The eternal chase for acceptance and glory lurking behind your words and appearance. Everybody’s got a secret agenda. Trust no one!”

Lonely The Brave announce new ep, reveal single

Picture

The EP features two other non-album tracks, including the immediate, melodic “Collider”, and a cover of The Walkmen’s iconic “The Rat”

Farflung announce new ep

Picture
Get the launch pads and spatial gear ready, as California's cosmic rock unit Farflung return with their new EP "Unwound Celluloid Frown" this April 7th on Heavy Psych Sounds!

33 minutes of lysergic grooves and slamming riffs... Imagine, if the bastard child of Amon Duul II and Hawkwind arose from the ashes of America, stark and glimmering, bathed in the energetic glow of the Stooges. One last cup raised to the lunatics and wishing for wounds. They have set their course for the farthest reaches of the universe. Are you ready? Are you ready to climb aboard their craft? Fasten your safety belts, engage your breathing apparatus: the lift off is about to begin.

Farflung's new EP "Unwound Celluloid Frown" was recorded at Saturn Moon Studio and EMU4 Tritium, produced by Grenas/Esther/Nakata. It will be issued in Black Vinyl, Ltd Coloured Vinyl and CD format.

Stay tuned, as the band will soon announce details for their upcoming European tour.

Emma Ruth Rundle & Jaye Jayle announce a new split EP

Picture
Sargent House alum Emma Ruth Rundle (Red Sparowes, Marriages) and the label’s newest addition, Louisville’s Jaye Jayle (featuring Evan Patterson of Young Widows) are thrilled to announce a new split EP titled The Time Between Us.  The album boasts three previously unreleased tracks from each artist and will be available February 24th, 2017.  Today, Emma Ruth Rundle has premiered her single “The Distance”. On the heels of her recently released and widely recognized third album, Marked for Death, Emma Ruth Rundle contributes a follow-up dose of brooding, melancholic rock draped in shimmering guitar and the breathy familiarity of her unmistakable voice to The Time Between Us.  In addition to two never-before-heard tracks (“The Distance” and “To Fold In England [Hours]”), Rundle closes her side of the split with the original acoustic version of “Hand of God”, a standout track from Marked for Death.

Side B of The Time Between Us features three new songs from Louisville, KY’s Jaye Jayle (Evan Patterson of Young Widows).  The band possesses a distinct Southern filter, though Jaye Jayle’s stripped-back noir in fact owes more to Krautrock than the blues, and arrives at a sound wholly unusual in the American underground.  The Time Between Us follows Jay Jayle’s debut House Cricks and Other Excuses to Get Out (October 2016) and his three songs continue to be an exercise in tension and restraint, a tightrope act between singer-songwriter traditions and art rock experimentation, and an intersection of Southern cultural permutations and otherworldly sounds.

Both Emma Ruth Rundle and Jaye Jayle will tour extensively throughout Spring of 2017 in support of The Time Between Us; Rundle is set to support Deafheaven and This Will Destroy You in February and March, while Jaye Jayle will be out with Oathbreaker in March and April.  Shortly after, Emma Ruth Rundle and Jaye Jayle will team up for a European tour together slotted around Roadburn Festival in The Netherlands.

Mumrunner release video

Picture
Fresh off a very busy and well received European Tour, Mumrunner return with their first ever music video for 'Cascais'. 'Cascais' has been a particular favourite for fans of the band from last years highly rated Gentle Slopes Ep. The band give us some words about the video

"The idea of the video was to put the band members amongst the scenario and scenery of World War II. The video was shot with an old 16mm film camera from the early 1960’s to achieve a similar feeling and picture quality with the used archive material, so it's hard to tell which shots are old and which are new."

Director Otto Heikola continues: "The inspiration for the song had come from an actual event in which boyish behaviour lead to tragedy. In the music video we decided to do something thematically similar, but on a much larger scale, set in the violent events of World War II with the band becoming part of the action."

Sauron unveil remastered version of 'Klasztor'

Picture
Pagan black metal act Sauron are releasing the classic The Baltic Fog on vinyl for the first time ever via Wheelwright Productions. Ahead of the release, the band have unveiled the track “Klasztor” (“Monastery” in Polish). The new single artwork has been specially created by Robert A. von Ritter.

Originally recorded and released in 1995, the remastered version of The Baltic Fog will be limited to 200 copies. The LP is scheduled for a 3 March 2017 release and is available for pre-orders via the record label’s online store.

The Baltic Fog LP was remastered by Haldor Grunberg at Satanic Audio (Thaw, Mentor) and will also include an exclusive double sided A2 poster with drawings by Krzysztof “Sirkis” Grzywacz (North) and Robert A. von Ritter (Outre, Witchmaster, In Twilight’s Embrace etc.). The new album cover drawing was done by Magadelena Jędrzejczak-Nalazek.

Ghost Season reveal new video

Picture
Athens, Greece-based alternative metal band Ghost Season are celebrating the release of their debut album, 'Like Stars In a Neon Sky', by revealing the music video for the album track "Fade Away."

The twelve-track record follows the band's 2014 EP Ghosts Like Her and includes the single "Break My Chains," which was released in December 2015. Like Stars in a Neon Sky also features an adrenalized rendition of Savage Garden's pop hit "Break Me Shake Me."

The album was co-produced by vocalist J.Loren Wince, from alt-rockers HURT.

"This is what we were waiting for," said bassist Dorian Gates. "Over the last year we have put our hard work to make this album get to you. And we are blessed and honored to have by our side J Loren from Hurt and the guys at Pavement Entertainment."

Guitarist Nick Christolis adds: "We blended in our music all of our influences: old meets new, classic meets modern. Thoughts turn into music, music becomes food for thought."

Like Stars In a Neon Sky is out now on Pavement Entertainment.

Demonic Resurrection release lyric video

Picture
Indian epic death/black metal band Demonic Resurrection have finally premiered a song off their upcoming album titled 'Dashavatar' via a lyric video.

One of India's longest running bands, Demonic Resurrection, are back with their fifth full length album and it's a unique take on the avatars of Lord Vishnu according to Indian mythology. Each song is dedicated to a different avatar and the artwork and lyrics are indicative of the same. 'Dashavatar' follows the band's trademark epic black/death metal style that the band have cemented over the decades. The fans won't be disappointed and at the same time this is an ambitious leap forward. Tasteful solos accentuate the soaring riffs, all impeccably structured to bring to life stories from ancient Hindu mythology. Suitably atmospheric and tempered to perfection, this album holds its own in an era of ever-increasing individuality.

Kairon; IRSE! reveals new song

Picture
Behind the moniker Kairon; IRSE! there are four inner space travelers from western Finland. Debut album Ujubasajuba already knocked the planet off its orbit, even though it was done as a DIY Bandcamp release. Despite the lack of a physical release the album found itself on many a best albums of the year -list in 2014. Since then the band has performed at various large festivals and meticulously written the new album. Titled ‘Ruination’, the album will be released by Svart Records in February 2017 on CD, double LP and digital.

The band describe their music as an appreciation of the ideas and overall mentality of experimental pop musicians of the 60s and 70s, combined with a modern approach and original musical vision. Whereas the debut album was largely born out of improvisation and jam sessions, Ruination is the fruit of two years of careful composing and arranging work, taking control of the chaos. Though often bundled with the shoegazer movement, Kairon; IRSE!'s music has since the beginning been a rare bird inside the scene: it rings out with a different tone, and already on the first album the influence of classic progressive rock was evident. On Ruination the curiously named quartet heads further, beyond the point of no return, into their own world of sound, where power chords, arpeggios and quirky vocal harmonies flow.

'Ruination' was recorded in the summer of 2016 at Tonehaven Studios producer Juho Vanhanen (Oranssi Pazuzu, Grave Pleasures) at the helm and Tom Brooke recording and mixing. "Juho shared our vision of how the album should sound", comments guitarist Niko Lehdontie, "but he also gave us a much needed outside view of the proceedings." Svart Records is set to release both Ruination and the group's first album Ujubasajuba on February 3, 2017, on CD/2LP/Digital. The band is heading for an extensive Finnish tour in February, and live appearances abroad are to be expected as well.

Divisionists reveal new single

Picture
London-based psych power pop outfit Divisionists have announced they will be releasing their debut LP ‘Daybreak’ on March 17 and present the first single ‘Say Can You’ as a teaser. This album will be released digitally and on vinyl via Mount Watatic Records.

‘Say Can You’ is a refreshing and upbeat track with hints of early Teenage Fanclub, The Lemonheads, Matthew Sweet and Bob Mould (including his project Sugar), albeit with softer vocals and much less feedback.

"We are very excited by how well 'Daybreak' came together as an album. For me, I'm lucky to be in such an great band: Mark, Rob, Mike and I have fantastic synergy to explore new territory, yet also the intense (obsessive!) perseverance to "get it right". Musicians always say a record is a labor of love -- in this case, it's really been true. We've put the very best of us into this recording, to create an interpersonal and cultural snapshot of blood, sweat, tears, late nights at the pub, the whole works -- and we believe we've made something cool," says Divisionists’ frontman Brendan Quinn.

The forthcoming album follows their debut EP “we play rock music…” (2011). Comprised of 12 tracks, this new offering features guest appearances by saxophonist Brian Idd and vocals from both Gwen Knighton and Lisa Makros.

Hyenas reveal album details and teaser

Picture
In a genre saturated with bands reproducing the same boring moves and routines, it can become quite a chore to find that elusive gem amongst the steaming piles of manure. It does however make it that much more rewarding when you do.

Hyenas, hailing from Nuremburg, Germany will grab you by the short and curlies and make sure you hear what they have to say. They really are a pack of wild animals! This is raw, powerful and yet immensely catchy music. The guitar work on Deadweights is made up of punchy, angry riffs that will make you wanna rip the carpet from your floor... and yet there is something somewhat elaborate to it at the same time, creating something bigger than just sheer heaviness.

In the end, however, Hyenas never forget where they come from: punk, filth, feedback, count ins, raw live energy... this is modern day's hardcore. Immediate comparisons can be made to the late but great The Chariot, Every Time I Die or Norma Jean.

This talented young band has so far only released a demo-EP in January of 2014, which was met with critical acclaim amongst musicians and journalists alike. Debut album Deadweights was recorded live within just 4 days by Jan Kerscher out in the nowhere of Ghost City Recordings, surrounded by nothing but dark trees, cows and cold December skies.

Deadweights refers to unloved peculiarities that we are subconsciously aware of but are often not so easily abandoned", vocalist Robert Sierl comments. The album orbits around the topic of self development as a human being, whilst simultaneously criticizing abuses and misconduct caused by modern society that are increasingly rooted in the personalities of each individual.

If you ever have the chance to see Hyenas live, be prepared for the sensation of being kicked in the teeth by an angry bull's rear feet... and if you can't imagine this to be a truly liberating experience, go watch Fight Club again!

Braveyoung announce new album, reveal song

Picture
Portland OR's Braveyoung have returned with a new album of somber instrumentals entitled 'Misery and Pride'.  While arranging details for the release, founding member Isaac Jones was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. He has since recovered, and Braveyoung are eager for their long-awaited second album to see the light of day. 'Misery and Pride' unfolds like an ominous premonition of the turbulent years since its completion; listen to the album’s brooding first single “Wonderful” now.

'Misery and Pride' sounds as more like a classical music than the expansive post-rock Braveyoung is known for. Brooding drones and chamber string arrangements shape these stripped-down eulogies, but the menace of their punk roots remains. The album takes its name from text in Czech author Milan Kundera's novel, Ignorance.

Tell No One release new video

Picture
French rockers Tell No One have released a video for the song 'Ohama Beach'. The music video has been produced by C&P studio, on a pierced beach with two bunkers, which decline the rhythm of waves and tides. Filmed with the biggest Atlantic wall's imposant vestige, which was perfect for the track's meaning to express  a melancholic energy.  The death symbol is represented by the dancer dressed in black and the rope section that is visually based on the track with a cold atmosphere, chaotic and wild.

King Woman release new video and tour dates

Picture
As they prepare for the release of their debut full-length album Created in the Image of Suffering, Bay Area CA’s King Woman have unveiled an extremely emotional and powerful music video for “Deny”.  Vocalist and lyricist Kristina Esfandiari commented:

"The video for ‘Deny' is a depiction of the shadow aspect in Jungian psychology.   It's about the inner darkness buried deep within the subconscious. In the video you see this portion of the mind surfacing and coaxing the preacher into his truest form; drawing out the aspects of himself which he loathes because it doesn't fit in with his beliefs.

In church, I saw others being raised with a rod in their backs, trying to fight their own carnality - buried in shame and guilt. The belief was to deny anything inside of themselves that was considered ugly or wrong, and instead attain a pristine image. With this video we aimed to paint a picture of how tormenting and exhausting it is to wrestle with your true self.”

Check out the "Deny" video below, which was directed by Kevin Haus who commented, "I wanted the video to be extreme in all emotional directions, and I think we accomplished that."

Aluk Todolo announce "Archives Vol 1" details

Picture
Instrumental power trio, ALUK TODOLO, have confirmed details of their upcoming archival release, appropriately titled Archive Vol. 1. The eight track record will be released via Temple of Torturous on 20 March, 2017, and is comprised of rarities, B-sides, and unheard tracks that chart the first ten years of their existence.

Over those ten years, including four full length albums, a collaboration and two EPs, ALUK TODOLO have trodden a new path of sonic pursuits. Hailing from France, the exploratory trio get experimental with Krautrock drenched in black metal intensity. Whilst having never been able to be easily pigeonholed, ALUK TODOLO's sound has morphed and reshaped over the years.

Of the new release, the band commented: "We selected those tracks, because they were still in our consciousness after all these years. We approached the release as a whole, assembled the tracks focussing on dynamic, like we did for our latest studio album Voix (instead of making it chronological). For us it's a way to revisit our 10 first years, and use recordings we made on our own, be it rehearsal tracks, or work-in-progress steps, rare tracks releases or just experimentations. It's a collection, and here is Vol.1, we have no clear plan about the Vol.2, but time will tell..."

Archives Vol. 1 will be released on vinyl & digital for the Spring equinox of March 20 via Temple of Torturous in Europe and The Ajna Offensive for US. Pre-orders details will be announced in due course.

Val Tvoar release new video

Picture
Estonian stoner metal act Val Tvoar have released a killer video for his new single "Dark Side of Mine". Fans will be rather delighted to discover that this new video is actually the prequel to the video for his single "I am You".  Both tracks are selections from the album "In Light You Believe ... But In Darkness You Dwell", which was released in November 2016. All characters in the video are portrayed by the brilliantly-talented members of Val Tvoar's live band. And they filmed the video themselves through the hand-held magic of the iPhone.

The band comments: The cinematography is of a deliciously-gritty texture and integrates perfectly with the core story, which is thematically inspired by the Mary Shelley novel "Frankenstein as the Modern Prometheus".

Galván “Lady Carrot”, from the Castilian folk music scene, and Nightmarer, from the avant-garde metal projects As Light Dies and Garth Arum, Aegri Somnia blends Spanish folk and traditional music with the lugubrious ambience of dark-wave. The band’s debut album, “Ad Augusta per Angusta”, is a compilation of Iberian popular folk songs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, transmitted over the years from generation to generation around bonfires and is set for release on January 30th via Symbol of Domination.

FutureClown lip syncs presidential inauguration speech

Picture
On January 20, 2017, the swearing in ceremony of Donald J. Trump as President of The United States was lip synced by LA-based artist Rachel Mason as her internet Avatar character FutureClown. As noted by Carolina A. Miranda at the Los Angeles Times, “if you missed Trump’s speech, you can always watch the clown version instead”. In the words of Priscilla Frank at Huffington Post, “For many, watching a futuristic clown sworn in as president seems less strange than the real thing”.

The performance was live streamed from the nonprofit gallery LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions), viewable by passers-by and streamable in real time via Facebook. This was the only event on LACE's schedule, which was closed to the public that day to observe the nationwide culture strike #J20, which called on art institutions to close on Inauguration day.

Mason has long used her FutureClown persona to tackle political events that seemed somewhat out of this world. Her unique approach has led to coverage in the LA Times, NY Times and numerous other publications.

XII Boar release video for ‘Black And Blues’

Picture
Here's a colossal slab of rock'n'roll fun for you, with the brand new music video from UK party metallers XII BOAR for "Black and Blues". The song is taken from XII Boar’s excellent second full-length ‘Beyond The Valley of The Triclops’, which was recorded and produced by Chris Fielding at Skyhammer Studio (Conan, Electric Wizard, Winterfylleth). It’s something of a departure from the trio’s usual brash, Motörhead-esque sound – don’t worry, you’ll still get a decent dose of swaggering, Southern fried riffs and those gruff, throaty vocals, but ‘Black And Blues’ finds XII Boar easing their foot off the gas a little to make room for some soaring harmonica, acoustic fingerpicking and a bluesy, world-weary atmosphere. A perfect song to drown your sorrows to in some dive bar at 3AM, in other words.

This Gun for Hire release new song

Picture
Vancouver metalcore actThis Gun for Hire will be unleashing their debut album 'Something A Little More Sinister' on March 31, 2017. The band recorded the release with engineer and producer Roger Swan (K-OS, Battle Axe) to present their first clutch of original songs to showcase to the world. Now, the band share their first single 'Good Morning Deacon' as introduction of what's to come.

The band comments on the track:

“‘Good Evening Deacon’ was written about an encounter that was had with a young man that was at the end of his rope. When traveling home one evening, Deacon was happened upon while on the other side of the Granville bridge, ready to leap to an untimely demise. After hours of gentle talking and coaxing, he was talked back to safety on to the other side of the railings.

This song is in his honor, and dedicated to all those who feel the misery and loneliness is too much to bare. Even when things seem their darkest, waking up over and over to the same heartache, and life is repeatedly stomping on you, intent on driving you down; there is hope. And sometimes the love you seek will come from people you’ve never met, showing you your life does in fact matter and things will get better. This song is for Deacon Braun. I hope happiness found you.”

Russian metal bandEmerald Mind released a new video for the song “Astronaut In Her Space”. The song comes from their second album “Civilization”. The band comments:
This song draws parallels between the depths of the universe and a human mind. One person explores the other one like a spaceship, drifting among the space. Anyway even if you are far from philosophy you can just enjoy powerful riffs, catchy melodies and exceptional vocals of  beautiful Svetlana!

Five more acts for Dunk! Festival announced

24/1/2017

Picture
Picture
Our news section is slowly turning into an alternation between bands for Dunk! Festival and Rock 'n Scrolls. But that is perfectly fine by me. The good people in the lovely town of Zottegem have thrown another bunch of names in the mix:

A whole bunch of bands were already announced but we're not done yet. With these 5 new names we're at 33 bands confirmed for #dnk17 and still counting. Today we would like to introduce you to these guys. Check them out if you didn't know them before. All of them are definitely worth your time!

Set and Setting from Florida, USA will cross the Atlantic Ocean for the first time and we're excited to have them at dunk!festival... And dunk!records! This Friday they will release Reflectionless on vinyl with us (EU color edition).

Also Terraformer is working on a new album to be released on dunk!records. Actually it's being pressed on vinyl as we speak. It will be released on February 16th! Pre-orders are coming soon. We actually already previewed one song of this upcoming album in our second podcast if you remember. This trio from Belgium already showed us what they got at previous editions, last time with a special show in the forest.

The Black Heart Rebellion from Belgium takes their time to write and release new music but that's always worth the waiting. They're making use of unusual instruments to set a haunting base layer for their dark, dramatic stories. This show won't be like anything you ever heard before. We witnessed that at dunk!festival in 2013.

Time To Burn from Paris, France was on hiatus until recently. Now they're back! And we didn't want to miss this chance to have them at #dnk17. If our infrastructure survives this post-hardcore explosion of sound we're sure we can handle anything. Definitely have a listen to Nayeli from the album Is.Land.

Ashtoreth is a solo project and probably the only guy at the festival that can claim he has a clothing line (by Pelican Avenue) dedicated to his music. He even got to play it live at the Paris Fashion week in 2011. Ashtoreth is an experiment in minimal, drone, doom, post-rock and many other styles but always in free form. Also this show will be a unique experience in combination with the location we have in mind ;-).
Yes, I know, you do need tickets for this event. Buy them here

Klone release new video

Picture
French progressive rockers Klone have premiered the first extract of their new effort, 'Unplugged'. The song, titled 'Immersion' comes from their live performance at the Théâtre de la Coupe d’Or de Rochefort. The live performances to Anneke Van Giersbergen's crowd in May 2016 were a huge success, and a completely different but not any less rewarding experience for both audience and the band itself, as compared to their non-acoustic shows. "Unplugged" contains nine songs taken off the last two albums, 'Here Comes The Sun' and 2012's 'The Dreamer's Hideaway', recorded live at the Théâtre de La Coupe d'Or, as well as two studio tracks... including a cover version of Depeche Mode's 'People Are People'.

Ohhms announce debut full-length, album details

Picture
After two successful EP releases on Holy Roar Records, British heavy progressive five-piece Ohhms return with their debut album "The Fool", due out March 31st on Holy Roar Records. "The Fool" delivers five thunderous songs that focus on corporate and personal politics, taking their lyrical cues from the likes of Crass and politically-charged hardcore punk, all the while wrapping these critical themes in elegant tarot-inspired packaging courtesy of Italy’s Black Sails Design.

On top of this, each copy of the album comes with three tarot cards, which when pulled from a copy delivers an individual reading for each listener.

The band comments on the making of this new record: "For this past year and a half, we have been creating ‘The Fool’ and it has been an incredible time for us. From the initial concept to the composing of the music and even sorting the final track listing order, each and every aspect to putting this together as been a joy. Key to us achieving this has been the ongoing support of Holy Roar and Tone MGMT who have handled any nonsense we have thrown at them, and left us to our own devices to make the exact album we wanted to make. We are lucky as hell to have you people. We can’t wait for you to hear it. Play it loud!"

The lyrics explore the inner conflict and self-destructive nature of man - parting from his will, values and life. The album was recorded with Tommi Otsavaara, mostly live in studio with the exception of vocals and guitar solos, just like for our debut."

Psykup release new song

Picture
French experimental metal band Psykup have revealed a brand new track on YouTube. The band comments:

"Psykup exists since 1995. We went through many storms and beautiful moments. But we never lost the faith, thanks in large part to the strong and powerful of our supporters support. Our latest musical effort dates back to 2008. 9 years of silence. A silence that will soon be shattered, with our new baby, the aptly named "Ctrl + Alt + Fuck", which will be released next spring. We have treated him, composed and made with heart, guts, and a good dose of bullshit. The first excerpt from this trip: "Violent Brazilian Massage". Come you palpate-roll with relish, and spread the good word of ostriches around you, to help us conquer the world! Thank you all."

Second To Sun release video

Picture
Russian metal act Second To Sun have release a video for the song 'Mrakobesie'. The song comes off the album 'Blackbound', which is now available.
Please note that the story depicted in the song is only available in Russian, as it is pretty much impossible to fully grasp the atmosphere and idiosyncrasies of what's happening in any other language. And now, all eyes on the screen.
The band comments:

Dear friends and fans of Finno-Ugric metal,

Not without a moderate amount of pride and satisfaction we would like to announce that the works on our first ever music video are concluded. Feast yer eyes on the Mrakobesie music video that is darker than dark, reeks of influences from such visionaries as E. Elias Merhige and Tod Browning, as well as classic black metal music videos, and tells the story of a normal family evening in Povolzhye.

Dunk! Festival throws another bunch of bands in the mix

The line-up for Dunk! Festival is taking shape as the organisation threw in another heap of bands today. Check out the announcement below.
Those who were there at dunk!festival 2014 know what to expect when And So I Watch You From Afar climbs on stage. But for those who were not: expect an overwhelming show with a continuous flow of energetic riffs from the first minute to the last. This was the only show ever where we had to make sure there was a crew in front of the stage to keep everything and everyone (more or less) into place.
Also Stearica from Italy will bring their heavy tunes to the dunk!fields. We went to see them live a few months ago (ear plugs already in position) but last minute they were only allowed to play an acoustic set. They were sad, we were sad so here we are. For real this time!
We discovered Alma at last years Arctangent in Bristol. We were extremely surprised by these fragile tunes on this festival full of math rock and other heaviness. Don't even think about taking a break when they are on! This will be one of the most beautiful shows of the entire weekend.
The Void Of Expansion is a project by Dirk Serries and Tomas Järmyr or also 2/3 of YODOK III who you might remember from last year. These guys will bring some freejazz with elements of shoegaze, postrock, ambient and noise in the game. They told us this will be 'a musical beast that is equally silent, extremely meditative, slow evolving and violently loud'. This sounds serious.
These three guys from Belgium aka True Champions Ride On Speed will bring in the heavy math tunes. Not really math rock though. It's probably called 'experimental math rock'. But more math than experimental. Anyway, in the end it's about the sound, not the words. Definitely check them out!
M[[O]]ON from France is 'dream doom, noisy post-rock and mini drones'. This might be the slowest show of the festival and we have a special location in mind for that! Sit back and let the drones lead your brain into vague stories while the sun falls through the leaves. All of that in slow motion. Just perfect.

White Willow announce album details

Picture
Laser’s Edge has confirmed the release date for Future Hopes, the seventh full-length from eclectic Norwegian prog quintet, WHITE WILLOW, unveiling the album’s artwork, track listing, and other details on the record.

WHITE WILLOW’s first album since 2011’s well-received Terminal Twilight sees the outfit exploring some of the most “progressive” territory the band has ever ventured into, with several lengthy tracks and more instrumental passages than they are usually known for. Musically the album builds upon the foundation of its predecessor, with a modern approach to production. Future Hopes also features a heavy use of synthesizers, including the unique textures of the famed Blade Runner synth, the Yamaha CS80.

The Future Hopes lineup, which as always is a loose constellation of musicians with multi-instrumentalists Jacob Holm-Lupo and Mattias Olsson at the core, sees the return of several WHITE WILLOW stalwarts, including flautist Ketil Einarsen (Jaga Jazzist, Motorpsycho), keyboardist Lars Fredrik Frøislie (Wobbler, Tusmørke), and bassist Ellen Andrea Wang (Pixel, Manu Katché Quartet). The singer is however a new arrival. Venke Knutson is best known in her native Norway for a string of Top 10 hits and is well established as a solo pop artist. She came into Holm-Lupo’s orbit as a guest singer with his other project, The Opium Cartel. Guesting on several tracks and putting a clear stamp on the album is Norway’s trailblazing guitar hero Hedvig Mollestad, known from her own Hedvig Mollestad Trio. Holm-Lupo felt the material needed a soloist who could both navigate the tricky, almost jazz-influenced chord and time changes on the album while at the same time retaining a rock edge, and Hedvig fit the bill perfectly.

Future Hopes was mixed by highly respected Norwegian Grammy-nominated engineer Christian Engfelt, known for his work on the Elephant9/Reine Fiske album, Atlantis, and the Todd Rundgren/Lindstrøm collaboration, Runddans. The record was mastered by Grammy Award-winning audiophile legend Bob Katz, and completed with a specially commissioned painting by Roger Dean. The CD and digital versions of the album also feature two bonus tracks, including an original tune, “Damnation Valley,” as well as WHITE WILLOW‘s unusual cover of The Scorpions’ classic dirge, “Animal Magnetism,” re-interpreted as a Tangerine Dream-like electronic piece while still retaining the heaviness of the original. The star on the track is New York-based clarinetist David Krakauer, knows as the world’s foremost klezmer clarinetist, with countless credits to his name both with his own projects, in jazz constellations, with many of the world’s best philharmonic orchestras and with soundtrack music. Krakauer is a recipient of many prestigious nominations and awards, from DownBeat to the Grammys.

Laser’s Edge will issue Future Hopes on CD, LP, and digital formats on March 31st, 2017.

Tracklist

Picture
Stockholm, Sweden's KREHATED have inked a deal with Zombie Shark Records, the new label founded by Noah "Shark" Robertson, (Motograter, Ex-The Browning). The band wields a devastatingly heavy, groove-oriented sound that is reminiscent of nu-metal-era bands such as Chimaira, Slipknot, Korn, Machine Head, Pantera, and Sepultura. The band recorded their feature full-length album 'The Venomous Mind' at JV Studios in Stockholm, Sweden. It was Mixed and Mastered by Christian Svedin (The Unguided, Vildhjarta, Imminence). The artwork was created by Tomas Lacke; with additional artwork and logos provided by Gustavo Sazes and Henrik Englund (Scarpoint, Amaranthe). The song "The Parasite" features a guest appearance from Richard Sjunnesson (The Unguided, Ex-Sonic Syndicate).

The band comments:  "We all have demons inside our heads. It doesn't matter how successful you are, how wealthy you are or how sane you seem to be. Everyone has been through rough times at some point in their lives and then carried around the aftermath... demons or venom in their minds. 'The Venomous Mind' is all about that. Our inner demons. Our inner fears. Our infected minds. The world of today is a disgusting place at times. This world brought us this hate. This world created us. We are the KREHATED."

NeroArgento release video

Picture
Swamp blues meets electro-rock with a psuedo-dubstep chorus and modern pop-tinged female backing vocals. Yes, it’s a brand new track called 'Kill The Lies' and a major departure for NeroArgento with a spicy taster from his upcoming solo album. The video is equally genre unspecific, with imagery to confuse and delight, which all blends into the unique world that NeroArgento is creating. 'Kill The Lies' is taken from the new album 'One Against All' out on December 13th in all formats on Sliptrick Records.

Wintersun announce new album

Picture
The time has come. The masters of melodic death symphonies are finally back. Wintersun will bring snow and storms all across Europe again and announce the completion of the recording of their upcoming third studio album.

The band comments:

It's 2017 folks, and it's going to be a great year! Time for some big WINTERSUN news? Yes, it is!

When we said that "IT IS DONE", we did not mean »Time II«, but we meant a NEW ALBUM for sure! »Time II« won't be the next WINTERSUN album, because of reasons you already know from past updates and interviews.

So what is IT? IT is a NEW ALBUM and it is 100% done! And no, that's not the name of the album. This album will be something new and different, but equally great or perhaps even better in some ways. Over 53 minutes of solid WINTERSUN material (with no intro tracks) and with a killer concept!

This album will be THE 3rd FULL LENGTH WINTERSUN album. We will release the name of it soon and other details such as the track list etc. We're gonna start putting the pieces of the puzzle together for you guys, how it's going to be released and what will happen... It will be a whole new experience! It will all make sense to you very soon!

And this album is not the only thing we've done, not by a long shot! In fact your minds will be blown soon! That is a guarantee. So click the notifications ON in our WINTERSUN page, if you don't want to miss out on the new album! (Because of Facebook algorithm reach limit). THANKS GUYS!

- Wintersun
