In an update about the petition to make Lemmium an official element in the periodic table, founder of the petition, John Wright, comments:
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your wonderful support for our campaign for help make ‘Lemmium’ the new chemical name for Heavy Metal in the Periodic table. We thought it was about time we gave you an update on what has been happening and how you can help (don’t worry we don’t want your money!)
The petition gained a lot of support, sometimes from unexpected areas:
-‘Don’t usually support campaigns but this one must surely be right’ – Professor Brian Cox
-‘Let’s do this’ – Duff McKagan, Guns N Roses
-‘I think this is a cool thing to do … please sign this petition’ – Phil Campbell, Motorhead
-‘How could we not?’ – Tim Burgess, The Charlatans
-‘Well done, keep it going’ – Phil Alexander, Editor in Chief - Kerrang, Mojo and Q magazines
-‘What a great way to honour him’ – British Phonographic Industry (The Brit Awards)
Wright: "The last one is particularly pleasing as we now have the support of British music industry as well as the British Government to move into the next phase of the campaign to really start to make the argument as to why Lemmy deserves the unique honour of having an element named after him in the Periodic table."
