Falaise’s music is supremely beautiful, and astoundingly true to the foundations of Black Metal. Fast rhythms, hallucinating guitar riffs, acute penetrating vocals and winged drums gives the breath and the speed to all of their songs, as they ably manage to provide as the basis of their music resonating notes of abnormal intricacy, while proving at the same time where their roots are, which is undoubtedly on the most severe, atrocious and exhilarating Black Metal. Nevertheless, Falaise’s songs has several elements uncommon to ordinary BM, and that’s where ambient, atmospheric and blackgaze elements drive new principles into their music, perfectly complimenting and adjusting into the somber and fast melodies of their tracks fresh layers of imperative demise, although in very lateral and subtle notes, since the most voracious and crude elements of Black Metal tend to prevail in their music, albeit in a very different and surprising form.
Nonetheless, beautiful and poetic rhythms fulfills several distinct sections of Falaise’s music, adorning their beautiful songs with daydream spheres of colorful illusions, and building ethereal realms of greatly divided enchantment that pulses directly from the core of their songs. At the same time, their sound revolves around segments of endless delicate questions, delineated by melodies of compounding insinuations, that permeates sideways the overall sphere of delightful contingencies that their debut album solidly built throughout eleven beautiful songs, amazingly sidelined with eventful compositions arranged as the pattern of a glorious artistic proposal, made of light, darkness, stone, ashes and dust.
While the particular genre of Falaise’s unusual type of Black Metal can’t be fully explained, confirmed or specified, we can not only be sure that it is Black Metal, but of a new and distinct breed: Falaise ignited their own brand of Black Metal, which is certainly unparalleled in music’s history, while at the same time managing to preserve and expand all the trademarks of the genre. Creating not just music, but small pieces of sound that can be regarded as links to a primordial work of art, Falaise rapidly rose into another level of musical artistry, rejuvenating a genre that not only needs a great deal of uplifting and refreshing reform concerning creation and new directions, but they infuse a deeply impressive degree of musical inspiration and intuitive provocation with their sound, that certainly will offer new exciting possibilities and expectations to Black Metal, not only as a genre, but as a category of music, a philosophy of life, and especially, as a rewarding demonstration of an exceedingly prosperous and sublime form of art.
So, these are the main reasons why As Time Goes By, Falaise’s debut, will and should be received with great enthusiasm by each and every individual in the underground scene. A beautiful work of art laboriously shaped in the craft of a diamond, this is an album made to break barriers, obviously designed to set a new pattern of songwriting, to establish much more cohesive elements to its foundations, and to show its compromised loyalty to perpetuate Black Metal as a driving force in the contemporary world, primarily by aggregating, first and foremost, its own personal and genuine components to the genre, exalting with their authenticity the landmark of something new, completely generated by a rereading of the old and the traditional. This is Falaise, and this is what they’re doing: renovating, rediscovering and regenerating a new form and a new kind of music, departing from the general and usual groundwork, to create a different shape of Black Metal. An excellent and outstanding work, that will drive everybody speechless!
