Abortion / Choked By Own Vomits - Split

Here's a split by two bands who have a lot in common.  At first of course, they both play brutal and blistering grindcore.  Second: the band names suggest not-so-pleasant activities, the first one being illegal in many countries and the second one not really recommended.  Third common property: when Abortion was formed in 1989, both bands were fellow countrymen.  Abortion hails from Slovakia and Choked By Own Vomits was formed in the Czech Republic.  Up until 1993 both countries were one: Czechoslovakia.

Enough with the history lessons.  Let's see what these bands have been up to.  We'll start with Abortion.  These guys have been around for a long time.  Clearly influenced by punk and hardcore, they play a punishing style of grindcore, at times with intense blast-beats.  In twelve short tracks, seemingly recorded live, these Slovaks growl and crawl their way through a noisy cesspool of extreme guitars and putrid vocals.  The riffs are quite elementary but somehow that aspect enhances the hardcore grind feel of the whole.

Choked By Own Vomits continues with the sickening steamroller of guttural growls, eerie squeals, pounding drums and fierce guitars.  Their music is even heavier (and at some point a bit melodic) than the previous band on this tape and they have a nag for experimentation.  'Forman Is Dead' for example is so weird it could almost be Japanese.  Yet, don't worry, they will drown you in a pool of blood, vomit and puss if they had the chance.

So, grinders of all ages, here is another infested abscess for your already festering collection.  This is once again some great stuff from our friends at Give Praise Records and I have a feeling many more will come.  Which isn't a problem by the way, for some reason grindcore is starting to grow on me and I love writing these reviews...
