Wait, what is this now?  How the fuck am I supposed to properly do my reviewing job if bands like this make it so hard to classify something.  Don't you guys want to sell albums or do you want to stun an unsuspecting audience with this blend? One moment I'm listening to Death, the next moment Black Sabbath comes along, being pushed forward by Slayer.  I'm confused and I still have some more paragraphs to write, dammit.

Ancient Spell is a traditional doom metal band with fierce grunts, hailing from Los Angeles (USA). Formed in 2012, they have been working on quite a unique blend of metal styles.  From doom-loaded riffs over traditional hard rock and flashes of death metal, mostly of course in the vocals, this acts does something really weird.  They sound both like a beginning metal band of the nineties and a seasoned doom act who want to try something new.

Besides the previously mentioned bands, acts like Manowar, Metallica, Trouble, Black Label Society, Type O Negative and Saint Vitus pass the list of musical landmarks.  Yes, that means slow to mid-tempo music which rocks.  We get some flashy solos and that thundering grunt to add to the confusion about this one.  Besides, some of the songs are damn catchy too, 'Fall Of Humanity' could even be a sing-along.

I'm a bit torn in between two opinions about this album.  On one side, it lacks the convincing power of the band's progenitors.  Yet, on the other hand, you can easily find me headbanging to 'Beyond The Gates' or 'March To Your Grave'.  The only solution I guess is hoping that they will ever come to Europe with this material.  I think on stage these guys can convince and come up with an intense live show.  For some reason I'm quite sure that will...
