I'll explain. Usually, when I start reviewing an album, I do a Google-search on the artist and sometimes the label. With this release, Google first showed me a heap of stuff about Athens, thinking that was what I was looking for. Then, when I looked for the label, it showed me a lot of water. Wrong twice, Google. When I finally found what I needed, I was stunned by how few followers this act has. Anthène certainly deserves better.
On the other hand, perhaps that's quite logical since this is the debut from this Canadian ambient project. Because that's exactly what we get on this beautiful tape, bright, soothing and relaxing ambient music, made with a number of electro-acoustic instruments (if I'm not mistaken). Opener 'Reaction' is a brilliant piece of work, on that will often appear in my playlist. In fact, this entire tape will definitely wear off in time because it will be played that much.
Anthène fits in perfectly with works by Harold Budd, Pete Namlook or Brian Eno. If you're into minimal soundscapes and shimmering drones, you should not ignore this release. It's simply filled with musical bliss from an excellent quality. Buy it, push 'play' and let yourself dwell in this awe-inspiring sonic world. You deserve it...
