Everything about this Portland, Oregon (USA) based band smells vintage. From their amps to their riffs and probably the sweaty shirts they wear. Everything has this nostalgic seventies scent. They smell like old rock festivals, dark clubs and huge arenas, and I love that stench. It makes me feel a lot younger again, which is quite welcome once in awhile.
In six songs, Ape Machine blend blues, hard rock, psychedelic rock and stoner rock and pour the whole into some quite complicated song structures. There's also a decent amount of experimental rock present, mainly in some of those intensely confusing guitar solos. The bring back the whole 'freaking out' atmosphere where everything is allowed, musically that is.
My favorite tracks are opener 'Crushed From Within', the fierce rocker 'Disband' and the stunningly beautiful closer 'Never My Way', which is obviously the ballad. But I recommend checking out the whole album since it's definitely worth your attention. High level party rock 'n' roll to start your weekend, what are you waiting for...
