It's hard to say what kind of metal this exactly is. Often, that tag depends on the vocals but there are none. So comparing this album to other works might become quite hard but we'll give it a shot anyway. I'm mostly reminded of dark metal acts like Evergrey or Nevermore, perhaps a little Children Of Bodom here and there and loads of thrash metal influences. It also has the progressive nature of bands like Dream Theater.
The songs on this album are complex and highly varied pieces of heavy guitars, pounding drums and flashing solos. Some electronics are being added, giving the whole a modern and futuristic edge. Tempos continuously alter, be it usually in quite a high tempo. The slowest passages might be comparable to post-rock, but that really is a far-off comparison, probably made only because of the instrumental nature of this album.
My favorite tracks are 'Shock', 'The Mystery' and title track 'Looking In A Mask'. I also dig the ambient soundscape 'My Creepy Path' by the way, but that's obviously because I am an ambient aficionado. Yet, I would like to recommend checking it out. This album is a whirlpool of riffs, tempo and power, coming from a seasoned all-round musician. Most of all, it's a bit strange and bizarre but I think that's exactly what Ghost Wolf wants.
