Bureviy is the reason why I'm still inside. This black metal band from Lviv, Ukraine, has bewildered me with their highly original blend of metal styles. I can't find a lot of information on the band, at least not in a language I understand. So I'll try to guide you through this album based on what I hear in the music.
The album opens with sounds of nature, followed by a first array of raw black metal. Bureviy has a female vocalist who furiously screams over the crushing riffs and intense blastbeats. The voice is way different from what men in this genre do, giving it a bit of a punk or sludge-feel which is just brilliant. It gives the album a strange, primitive atmosphere, escpecially combined with the music.
However, we're not done there, there's a lot more to come. Besides the vintage Candlelight (label) sounding black metal, there's a lot of room for pagan metal with (male) clean, almost ritualistic singing and a very forcefull headbang-capacity. This blend is surprising because it usually comes with a more modern approach but Bureviy clearly chose the 'ancient' path.
In a way, Bureviy incorporates the same level of variation as most pagan black metal bands do. The continues alternation between slow, folky parts and blastbeats driven brutality makes 'Concealed Beyond The Space' a highly enjoyable album, at least if you're into primitive, harsh black metal. I quite like this album, mainly because of this unqiue combination and I recommend checking it out. This is sick stuff...
