Chronovorus hails from Arizona, USA and aims to be one of the bleakest bands in the history of music. Their message isn't very pleasurable and their music isn't exactly suited for people who seem to be happy all the time. Yet, it's harsh, eerie, dark and haunting and it comes straight from the depths of the soul. The band isn't even a year old yet and this twenty-five minutes lasting horror story is already a massive piece of work. It opens with a grim dark ambient track, reminding me of acts like Lustmord or Elend, at least as far as atmosphere is concerned.
Other bands that come to mind are acts like Blut Aus Nord, Skullflower, Corrupted, Evoken and Gnaw Their Tongues. If that isn't a sick and doomed list of artists to be compared with, I don't know what is. 'A Star Oath' and 'Those Who Dwell In Ruin' (that will be all of us if this society continues on the path it's currently on - e.d.) are slow but brutal pieces of depressive black metal, a bit like Nortt and Burzum perhaps, with matching vocals.
In all, this is one morbid ep, destined to end up in the collections of the most malicious minds in the world. If you're one of those people who adore absolute sonic darkness and cold, gnawing music, you definitely should check this out. But beware, this ep will drag you down into worlds unknown and everything you see there, you can never unsee. Or as I like to call it: haunting ballads for deranged souls...
