Right, back to our usual business, writing reviews and discovering promising new bands.  To begin this writing session, I decided to blast a good old slap of death metal through my speakers.  If good, these albums radiate a good amount of energy and inspiration.  I usually like to begin with something heavy, something like this album for instance.  And what better country to look for good metal than Finland, right?

Coffincraft formed in 2008 in Joensuu.  Since then, this quartet have been perfecting their skills and their old school death metal.  That is exactly what they deliver too.  From the first notes of 'Impious Spawn' I'm drenched in this filthy, thick atmosphere.  The first band that comes to mind is Dismember, shortly after followed by other death metal deities like Unleashed, Convulse and Grave.

Gradually, the songs gain a bit of a melodic approach, quite similar to what bands like Amorphis used to do in the beginning.  This blend of sheer brutality and immersive melodies are exactly what dragged me into the Scandinavian genre back in the nineties.  In 'The Claimant' for example, I can sense some great doom influences with massive riffs.  Oh, and I really dig the pummeling sound of the drums.

This truly is the stuff that old school death metallers crave.  With a sound as blasting and diverse as in 'Necrostation' (my favorite on 'The Eerie Slumber') Coffincraft will start winning many doomed souls in the near future.  So I guess it's now time for this quartet to load their asses and equipment in a van and start conquering Europe.
