Strep Cunt is Cody Maillet. He lives in Boston, Massachusetts where he plays in several bands. He went solo in 1999 under a different name, The Abhorrer. In 2003 he changed the name to Cryostasium. Since then many albums, splits, e.p. and compilation tracks appeared, all showing 'varied dark heavy music', according to the biography. Judging from these two albums, he's quite right about that.
The music on 'Cryostasium' surely is the stuff of the putrid underground where genre boundaries are no longer relative. Somewhere behind these short but fierce pieces of blackened noise, sometimes hints of melody appear and sometimes you can percieve a rhythm, much like in power electronics and rhythmic noise. The main part of the music constists of screeching guitar riffs and something that vaguely resembles blast beats. In fact, I think even some of the most respected black metal labels would stay far away from something like this, hiding in absolute terror.
That continues on the entire album, with quite similar songs. The difference between both albums might lay in the notion that this self-titled album nudges a little more towards crust punk in stead of harsh noise, except for the eerie screaming of course. But there's little to no ambient present on this album, which of course isn't a problem if you're an extremophile like me.
