Monodrama is an album by Russian Post Rock group Echoes and Signals, released in March 30. A little more than fifty minutes long, Monodrama has nine tracks: Saltwater, Ocean, Station Horizon, Lead Astray, Farewell Centauri, Veins, Magnolia, Skymap and To The Lighthouse. Displaying conceptual and progressive elements, Monodrama is a singular work, more visceral and compelling than usual post rock albums. With somewhat “aggressive”, outstanding and audacious harmonies, unlike many other albums in the genre, there is literally no room for monotony here. Echoes and Signals’ melodies are captivatingly vibrating, dynamic, inclusive, interactive and incisive. One of the most fascinating post rock albums that I have heard, their style is simply fantastic, extraordinary and unbelievable. A genuine and formidable work, that really introduces a marvelous level of artistic grace and poetic innovations into the genre.

With protuberating, but flexible and monumental guitar lines – besides some beautiful solos –, Echoes and Signals revolutionizes the genre, producing a more vibrant atmosphere. The colorful music created by them is an outstanding and vigorous work of art, that revitalizes the singularities of life, introducing into the music a new galaxy of musical visionary embrace.

In Monodrama, each and every track, each and every guitar line, and virtually all interchanging melodies are exceptional surprises. With an unpredictable style, Echoes and Signals introduces life, dynamism, color and vibration into a generally static genre. They are not only exceptionally creative, they are audacious, innovative, genuine and formidably authentic, doing a post rock generated by an entirely different artistic stratum. They really know everything about timing, about where, when and in what precise places in the crest of the song they have to be different, intuitive and original.

The fourth track – Lead Astray – is a major surprise that deserves to be highlighted. With vocals by a singer called Marjana Semkina, this poetic and exceedingly beautiful song gets closer to a romantic art rock ballad with a classic overtone, never flirting nor ever falling into the pop category, although excels in a lovable and tender layer of sound.

A seminal work that revolutionizes the genre with a huge amount of original elements and innovations, Monodrama is a singular work in the post rock genre. Achieving a scope of artistic splendor that would place the band in a more indefinable category, Echoes and Signals is a formidable and amazingly irreplaceable musical group. Displaying a very singular style, that merges elements from other genres, this trio of overwhelming geniuses of music has presented us a major, intense and exceptionally vibrating piece of work. You can’t miss the monumental and outstanding work that Monodrama has revealed itself to be. A lucid, vivid and sensational album, to hear it is practically a religious obligation for each and every enthusiast of the genre. Echoes and Signals definitely is a unique group in the post rock scenario today. There is no one like them, doing what they do.
