With a profound, but nevertheless easy layer of inextinguishable expectations, Narwhals is filled with a delicate and imponderable sensibility, that compresses tension and expansion within a wider scope of infinite visibilities, all vehemently caught below an intuitive sense of mostly ethereal harmonies. Like most of his albums, Narwhals is an ambient track that takes the listener into a vast, cosmic, serene and mostly intrinsic journey, into the inner depths of his own self, drawing abysses of external landscapes, that plays the goal of universes within universes, holding the projection of one’s interior personal world, traveling to the exterior outside world, devoid of any major feelings of rapture.
Playing vastly with the ambiguity of emotions, Narwhals seems to be a more soft journey, not as painful and not as desolate as his albums normally are. But as the listener’s descent goes deeper and deeper into the abysses of the darkness of his own mind, surpassing the surface of a world of dreams in all of its vicious antagonisms, it is possible to feel at home, when an immensurable light of instinct tells consciousness that it finally arrived there, at the core of the palace that Narwhals wants the listener to be.
Sometimes disguised as a premise, and not a promise, Narwhals has its fair share of ambiguities, although set up in more discreet manners. As the song evolves into a more prominent static feeling, everything that stands between the listener and his emotions starts to fall apart, but not in a conventional manner. As the listener feels himself able to organize thoughts and rationalize, Narwhals dismantles feelings and sensations, to rearrange it again differently, in a more axiomatic pattern, according to a vastly anomalous line of communication, established by the lurid atmosphere of the music, to see, at least for a brief moment, everything according to Gimu.
As I wrote above, although this is more a typical ambient album, with less texture lines, less experimentation and a more stabilized atmosphere, nevertheless, the journey offered by Narwhals is a very emotional and compelling experience, although only more avid enthusiasts of ambient music will really appreciate. But for sure, it is highly recommendable for them all. Gimu is always a musician you deeply want to have in your collection.
