And this is some excellent sonic filth. Hailing from Italy and formed in 2014, Gravesite is ready to take over the death metal scepter with this stunning debut. That too shouldn't be a surprise since all members are seasoned musicians who have been active in several bands over the years. In bands like Undead Creep, Haemophagus, Cancer Spreading and Bland Vargar to be exact. So they had their share of experience and should know how to write a decent death metal album.
Whatever you like in death metal is here, except the symphonic and folk elements, Gravesite has no need for those. Instead, they treat us to strong riffs, guttural vocals and highly immersive tempos. This traditional recipe leads to fierce tracks, and certain highlights, in 'Submerged In Vomit' and 'I Want To Rot'. That being said, yes, lyrically, Gravesite seems to honor the old fashioned death metal tradition as well. They even have a song named 'Worship Death In All Its Forms'.
Bands that comes to mind while listening to these 'Horrifying Nightmares' include Master, Autopsy, Death, Carcass and Benediction. You'd be absolutely right to simply buy this album based on those five names by the way. Similar level of quality, similar level of songwriting, similar level of aggression and similar level of melody. Now you might think "well, that's not very original", but neither is your sex life and you still enjoy the hell out of that.
No seriously, this simply is a classic death metal album, one that definitely deserves a place in your vile, putrid and festering collection. There's no denying that. So check it out and prepare for a few hours of severe headbanging. Yes, a few hours. You will probably press 'repeat' quickly and let this one roll for hours on end...
