Hexenjäger - Demo

When an album begins with something that sounds like someone is being tortured, I always get interested.  Not that I'm a torture-fanatic, not at all.  I just like a little controversy, mental sickness and mischief once in a while.  In fact, I think more people should show an interest in the darker corners of our humanity.  It helps our brain when it balances between good and evil.  Or maybe that's just me.  In that case: sorry, I'm sick but I don't need help...

Anyway, it's time to slowly bang our heads to some nice vintage stoner doom, brought to us by a quartet from Saint-Nazaire (France).  Hexenjäger, German for Witch Hunters, claims in their bio that they make noise and listen to Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Hawkwind and Saint Vitus.  So what are you waiting for?  Go over to their bandcamp or facebook page and get your hands on a copy of this album, you won't regret it.  Well, if you're into doom metal of course.

There's two songs on this demo, that lasts for a bit over 28 minutes.  Opener 'Hexenjäger' drives on slow but forcefull guitar riffs and simple but crushing drums.  During the song I've been looking for other influences than the previously mentioned bands but there actually are none.  This is just a very good, old fashioned, doom song in the vein of many of the great ones in the genre.  As if it comes directly from the late seventies, before grunts were invented.

'Murk' is another well-brought doom song that nudges towards Black Sabbath and incorporates similar elements as its predecessor.  So in all, yes, we're dealing with a very decent demo that will please many doomfans.  I can surely see this band growing in the near future and I hope to be able to see them live because that's where this music sounds best...
