Holispark is a trio, consisting of Manon (vocals), Kevin (guitars) and Rock (drums). They met while playing in another band and decided to have a little fun together. The result is an uplifting blend of alternative rock and grunge with often a gentle hint towards the dark metal of bands like Lacuna Coil. Yet, most of all, this is listener-friendly rock music for those hot evenings in the upcoming summer.
'Disposable friend' is a slow but heavy piece of grunge music which might bring Cranberries to mind but believe me, Cranberries can only wish they could be as good as Holispark. This is one damn immersive song, not too complicated and powered by the strong but dreamy vocals of Manon. 'Further' is one of those tracks that can light up any summer festival. No many how hungover you are, once you hear this on the meadow, you smile and shake.
For me, summer festival bands are an entire different range of acts. This trio certainly is. Changes of me going to one of their gigs over in France or Brussels are slim but when they appear on a festival I happen to be, they might become one of the most interesting acts there. The music is warm, sunny and all in good fun, which obviously is the ultimate combination for a successful festival day.
'Light' is my favorite track here, I think. Would I dare to mention No Doubt here? 'Slippery Slope' is another nice surprise, an uptempo ballad. There are more musical goodies to be found on this ep but I'm not going into a song-by-song coverage here. You'll just have to believe me, this is fun to listen to and it will bring a smile on your face. If not, sorry my friend, there's no more hope for you. So try it out, you can only 'Win Or Learn'...
