Enter Menhir and their cosmic stoner doom. This trio from Groningen and Utrecht (Netherlands) have been rolling their astrosludge over audiences since 2012. Now they come up with this unforgiving ep, a fearsome blend of psychedelic doom and psychedelic stoner sludge if you like. In merely three songs they succeeded in convincing me and I'm quite positive that this ep will convince you too, if you're a fan of this genre that is.
Do you remember when Obelix threw a massive menhir on unsuspecting Romans? Well, you might feel pretty much exactly like this Romans when this ep hits you, crushed and overwhelmed by all this power. At first, the three songs on this tape sound like typical sludge tracks, loaded with fuzzed out guitars, pounding drums and harsh, raw vocals.Yet, at times there's some room for highly psychedelic passages, a bit repetitive and certainly hypnotic.
The only downside is the fact that this tape is a bit too short, certainly for this dreadful excuse for an early spring day. So perhaps I'll put it on repeat and let the monolithic riffs disturb the, usually horrible, jazz rehearsal session my neighbours are having. My advice? Buy this tape, you definitely deserve it. If you're a misanthropic doom metal fan you'll love it. If not, this ep might destroy you. Hurray!!!
