The Pleiades is a 2015 album released by the one man musical project Musicformessier, which is the creative vehicle of my great friend, terrific and astonishing Hungarian musician István Csarnogurszky, the mastermind genius behind a cosmological impressionistic style of music.

István Csarnogurszky is a man devoted to music, and the only force behind two personal projects: Musicformessier and Black Hill. In his album The Pleiades, what we contemplate is a vast range of serene fragmented dreamscapes, filled with the astounding force of an atmosphere of sound, eternity and sensibility, intertwined by an emotional landscape that improves itself each time the listener inserts his mind into the vast cosmologic tenure of musicformessier’s tracks.

Although imperceptive at first, his music is as simple as should be the harmonies that his sound evokes, although there is a more complex and intricate artistic proposal below the surface. What Musicformessier does with his atmospheric layer of sounds is a little beyond description, as you can feel yourself immersed in a serenity dreamland, where your mind could easily detach itself from your body, and impersonate a whole ethereal universe by the force of the music alone. And as the sound evolves, you perceive the unity of the whole album, as a great symphony carefully constructed piece by piece by single harmonies thoroughly combined together, in a somewhat great scale of unambiguous details, that brings you the peaceful wave of his supreme transcendental sonorous cosmogony.

With a personal style very hard to categorize, and yet, as remarkable as it could be, The Pleiades not only reinvents the Post Rock as a genre, but transcends it in an astounding composite level of artistry, being a major landmark of impressionistic music. This is the album of a lifetime: when you hear it, you will get to know a little better the sensitive soul behind the creation of this magnificent work of art, and you will never want to listen to anything else, for a long time. His music transpires serenity and peace. And yet, being remarkably simple on the other hand, you remember that this is just music, in its purest form, with the major proposal to insert you into another world – if you close your eyes and let the music do the work for you –, for a ten tracks voyage time. It’s almost like a sensitive travel to paradise. These beautiful, poetic, vast, sincere and space colorful allusive harmonies, played with passion, has no pretensions, other than being a collection of sonorous artistic little pieces, that will blow your mind away, in a dream-like stupor, wherever your soul may be.

Already hailed as a major force of the underground in his native Hungary, István Csarnogurszky proved with The Pleiades why he is a relevant force in music today. Being one huge avatar of Post Rock in modern contemporary music, his creativity has no boundaries, and his penchant for ambient space cosmic related minimalist music has yet to find a match, anywhere, in Post Rock music today. You can think this is an exaggeration, but, in fact, it is not! István Csarnogurszky it is to Post Rock what Keith Richards represents to traditional rock’n’roll.

Overall, a celestial dream would be the best definition for Musicformessier’s work, especially his The Pleiades, and not words, that aren’t capable, after all, to explain this unforgivably astonishing work of art! The rate for this album is five stars, of course! This is an album that could never receive a rate below that! And I should say, thank you, István, for all this great music! Keep doing it! The underground needs you!!
