'Black metal from The Netherlands', that's what this act's Facebook page mentions. That alone could already be a solid reference for some people. The Dutch seem to have a special bond with the evilest of genres, with great bands either renewing it or taking the vintage chaos and devastation to massive levels. I think it's safe to say that this tape belongs to the latter, the bleak, primitive and chaotic version.

Naagauk is a duo plus drummer from Nijmegen with members coming from bands such as Skymme, Hadewych, Frank. Wheeler and Scheerling. Those who are familiar with any of these bands, might realise that there's no black metal to be found between them. And yet, their collaborative project still manages to breathe that vintage dark and haunting atmosphere. In that aspect, this is a damn interesting debut.

I really like the sound of the guitars on these songs. They grind, gnaw and claw, barking out fierce riffs, often punk inspired, so it seems. Along with those eerie screams and well-varied drums, songs like 'Det Emmelike Snage' and 'Skrii' sound very convincing. 'AMFD' finishes it's destructive task before the dark ambient instrumental 'Bookbrenner' calms everything down. This last song even feels like a relief after about ten minutes of brutal eardrum-torment.

So take it from me, this is another one of those astounding underground gems from The Netherlands, the country of cheese, tulips and unlimited musical aggression. If you're one of those hard-core fans, you should get your hands on one of these tapes. Besides, there are only 65 of them. They come with a miniature art print and a download code. The whole thing looks damn nice too.
