Metal bands from Poland have a tendency to be pretty dark and heavy, Nihilosaur is no exception, in fact this is the heaviest album I have reviewed so far. I use the term metal band loosely here. They can't be labelled in one specific style, they combine metal with hardcore, industrial and death metal oh yes some sludge too, pour this into a mixer and the result is a ...Icebreaker Hope.
The album starts of with industrial and ambient sounds after a while the guitars kick in and the album starts getting heavy. Ffrom there on this is amplified by the aggressive vocals, The opening track reveals how this album is going to sound, a promising prospect.
"Sex sex sex' (this is not my tourette syndrome playing up, it's the title of the second song) starts of with death metal like guitar riffs, suddenly out of nowhere there is a shotgun from drums in hardcore style the song explodes and turns heavy with impressive guitar work and kick ass drums.
After this heavy peace of work there is a industrial noise song that sounds grim and scary followed by a song with ambient background noise where lyrics are spoken over, these songs have the purpose of setting a certain mood, quite scary in the middle of the night, but fitting for the album
After that intermezzo a guitar riff hits me and my jaw drops. This is the most impressive riff I have heard in months..The bass guitar and drums join the party. This is again an all out aggressive dark heavy song, but those guitars...they will be stuck in my mind for a long while to come.
Tthe last songs on the album have lyrics like "the dead who had already died are happier than the living who are still alive, but better than both is the one who has never been born' you would say definitely death metal, here the surprise is that these songs are faster and harder, close to hardcore, subtle surprises like this make that the album doesn't get boring and packs a lot of nice surprises.
I advice to listen to this album in one go to get the full experience, the tracks are perfectly aligned to take you on a dark an scary story, and the guitars on this album...listen to it and you will not be able to prove me wrong.
