With its modest sound, and generally very calm harmonies, Small things, true love is a graceful record. The melodies are strikingly soft, but no monotony ever takes place in the crest of its sonorous serenity. With a real sense of deliverance, Northway’s style of post rock can be described as essentially traditional, but it’s overwhelmingly efficient as well. Constant, coherent and displaying a vast, but at the same time compact sense of unity, their music has a high sincerity that becomes crucial for its capacity to exert a real impact on the listener.
Maybe you will not be too fascinated by this album, since, in general, Small things, true love can be described literally as the usual, average post rock record. Nonetheless, Northway is a band that has its own style, displaying more subtle qualities, that you will not absorb correctly if you don’t devote your attention exclusively to their music.
A very good album, by all means, the melodies aspire to a simplicity where no imagination can ever be revoked. With a creative expansion that submerges into the sound the perceptions of an intuition higher than life, Small things, true love, can be described as a modest masterpiece. The sound not only sounds genuine, but overwhelmingly pure, and overflows directly towards the sentimental gardens of life. There is so much soul, density, truth, passion and emotion injected into their music, that it’s impossible to be indifferent to the astounding sonorous beauty created by Northway on this album. A very good work, that should be heard by all post rock enthusiasts that exists in this world. You and I included!
