Nyx seems highly influenced by the thrash-induced black metal scene and mainly bands like Dissection, Marduk and Absu. Judging from the music on this album, these Italians do quite well in honoring the traditional version of this genre. Often complex hooks alternate with fast, in-your-face passages. Here and there some blackened doom metal comes shining through, much to my delight actually.
Of course, the whole bathes in a bleak and occult atmosphere, enhanced by some short gloomy breathers in the form of classical, religious choirs. These combine the songs quite well and give the whole something extra. Perhaps a welcome deviation from the harsh metal this trio is slapping in our face. Blackened highlights are the tracks 'Aliqvam Hortabantvr Mori' and the strange, post-metal track 'Nema' but the whole album is pretty damn interesting...
