Let's face it, metal is the most widespread, popular and varied genre in the history of music.  Millions of people enjoy distorted guitars and powerful vocals in all their forms.  I think headbanging is also the most used form of dancing ever, although you never see a headbanging course in a dance school.  They should do that.  It could critically reduce vertebrae damage and whiplashes.

Ommititia is a band from Paris, France, founded by Nicolas Chevrollier after parting ways with The Old Dead Tree.  Other musicians (from Sinn, Jarell and Dustbowl respectively) would soon join in, making this a full-on band and a force to be reckoned with.  In 2010 the line-up was complete and the band was ready to enter the studio.  Now, five years later, they're back with a brand new album.

The music on 'Let's Face It' can best be described as dark, progressive metal.  It has very modern-day sound, blending technical doom metal with an epic atmosphere.  If I have to compare Ommatidia to other bands, I'd probably mention Evergrey, Opeth, Tool and Katatonia.  Yet, these Frenchmen present themselves somewhere in the middle of all those bands with a sound that reminds me of them but does not sound alike.

For the main part, this is a pretty slow album, hence the doom metal reference.  It seems that the ban focuses on a calm atmosphere and leave the in-your-face attitude behind them.  Yet, there's lot of very strong guitars in here, played in a progressive and quite technical fashion.

Same with the vocals.  For the main part these are clean vocals with a lot of power and at times some death growls appear, not very often, just enough. They add a lot of quality  and somehow function as a grasp within the complex and varied nature of the music.

So in all, this is a very decent dark progressive metal album that would make an excellent addition to many metal collections.  The level of songwriting is very high and you can easily tell that these are talented musicians who have become well-attuned to each other.  Great stuff...
