Interlude, Above the essence..., ...To ephemeral dusk and Unveilings of cold – what we have here is a very vigorous, excellent and punctual BM album, filled with the energy, the latent pulse and the authentic sonority that a decent album of the genre should have.
Heavy, but filled with melody at the same time, the album follows strong rhythms, reverberating guitar lines, and a proficient concept, guarded by the shadows of a very demanding sound. Although their style seems generic at times, doesn’t take too much for the listener to be astounded by their vibrating atmosphere, that sounds colorful, but sinister and unexpected at the same time. With tranquil and serene passages that reminds you of a distant cold winter lost in time, these moments usually serves as a pretext for a very aggressive sonorous layout, that impersonates the dark melancholy of a castle made of emotional winds, in an infinite compendium of lost art, that will clearly expose among their influences the most emblematic acts of the genre. Nonetheless, they absolutely show their own style, dry, coherent and objective, but adorned with the poetry of a marvelous day disturbed by the shadows of melancholic thoughts.
Following tradition – which means that their sound can easily be recognizable as distinctly melodic black metal –, Epiphanies of the Orphaned Light as an album really outstands itself as a good work of art, full of the best qualities we can find on the genre, never sounding ordinary or artificial. Counterbalancing heavy passages with more soft ones, the record really finds itself in a great bridge of imposing equilibrium, being able to please a large scope of enthusiasts, from the most extreme fans to the more moderately easy minded listeners, that do not enjoy a heavier sound. With exceedingly poetic passages, Perennial Isolation had done a very good job on this work, showing sonorous maturity, original creativity, and a genuine development of style.
A very good and powerful album, Epiphanies of the Orphaned Light, despite sounding too uniform at times, is a very good work. Deserves to find its audience, and the audience deserves to find this refreshing album as well.
