PITN come crashing back into the metal scene right through the front door with Equanimity. The new album is extremely fast paced and high speed shredding that gives it a crossover thrash feeling.
The nine minute opening song 'Crawling' this is far from being tedious. It's a fast paced song with some hard drums and nice fast bursts, not letting up at all. The vocals range from extreme screaming over roars to a more melodic style, combining this with some amazing grooves. It's a heavy start that leaves you wanting more.
With 'Reality' they take a more straight forward approach. There are still moments in the song with a progressive nature. After this the album feels a mid more melodic but then come the tracks 'Insiders' and 'Soulbones' smacks you straight in the face with it's hard nature and amazing riffs that stay with you a long time after turning off the album at which point I needed to ice down my neck after some serious amount of headbanging.
PITN have come out stronger and more mature since they left us in 2007. This album is the benchmark for all other death metal bands this year, I only hope they don't wait nine more years to bring out a new album because this one leaves us wanting more.
