Gravskrift impresses not only for its high level of intelligent compositions, but its relentless compromise towards a visceral and restless sound not only makes the perfect match between traditional black metal and a more authorial style of music, it also showcases a splendid and uncommon level of sensibility, that reveals a fabulous degree of artistry that projects the ethereal aspirations of the work to a path were everything is more pure, abstract, drastic, interchangeable and didactic.
While I haven’t found Gravskrift to be perfect, it certainly gets very close to it. A marvelous album with a lancinating, quintessential and splendid premise, this is no ordinary black metal record. Filled with a genuine soul replete of a cosmos adorned by a magnificent and royal dementia, this album is a state of the art work, that really foretells the lurid predispositions of its own essence.
This album is highly recommendable to black metal enthusiasts, but the ones inclined to a more vigorous, spontaneous, fulminant, vibrant and spectacularly elusive style. Adorned by a kinesthetic spirit of artistry and poetry, Gravskrift is an album whose music is circumscribed in the forbidden alignment of unforgivingly reinstated inexistent stars. Creating and practicing a very different type of black metal – that, although it does feature prominently a more personal and individual understanding of the genre, can be strongly identified as black metal – Rimthurs presents us on this album a magnificent cosmic view of existence. In a more pragmatic, but at the same time extensively poetic, vibrating tune, like you have never heard before, in your entire life.
