Symbolon - Rise Of The Antelopes

At times I'm stunned by the flexibility and open-minded experimental nature of modern day metal.  For decades the genre has been a synonym for obscurity, violence and quite unfriendly towards society as we know it.  In recent years it has grown into the number one musical style in the world and probably the only genre wherein Kayne West doesn't feel like BeyoncĂ© deserves all the awards.  Metal is huge and keeps on going strong with a continuous flow of new blood.

Symbolon is a band from Amstetten, Austria which mainly focuses on metalcore while incorporating a whole lot of other elements as well.  This e.p. is their debut, a powerful four-track, loaded with crushing guitars, pissed-off screams and vigorous drums.  On the other hand, beneath the brutal distortion there's place for a whole lot of melody and modern day trash metal.  It's a short metallic history in four lessons.

For the main part of this e.p., the bands plays mid-tempo metal songs, borrowing from hardcore, punk, thrash and melodic metal.  This combination works quite well and truly has the potential to get a crowd moving and to get a party started.  Not only in the music, but also in the combination of clean vocals and typical metalcore screams, this band seems to excell.  The result is a highly explosive debut that will please any metalcore fan.

In a bit under twenty minutes, Symbolon proves why they should be an up and coming band in the modern day metal scene.  Unfortunately, I'm not yet sure if this e.p. will get them the attention and the exposure they want.  I feel that this band is still growing and that this e.p. will be followed by a tremendous blast in the near future.  These are very decent musicians with a lot of potential, but potential needs time and effort.  If they have both, they can truly become a band to be reckoned with.
