Then They Flew is a band already fully developed, with exciting melodies and beautiful songs, and their album Stable as the Earth Stops Spinning is certainly one of the best of the category. Elemental harmonies fulfilled with rising melodies, intertwined with melancholic guitar lines give the pace to a very symmetric, but unimaginable masterpiece, true to the roots of Post-Rock, without limiting themselves to just follow the usual trends of the genre. Exploring the outline basis of the music itself, but expanding the boundaries and principles of their own groundwork ambitions, the band really sets up the basis to a very colorful and creative music proposal, showcasing a talent and a poignant originality that really sounds fresh and innovative to Post-Rock musicians and enthusiasts alike.
With walls of sound much more thinly disguised as constructive foundations primarily derailed by spiraled rising tones of sequential melodies, that keeps lined up to its own depictions of sonorous calm waves in upward motion, their pace, timing and rhythm are a fundamental tool to the development of their music. The guitar lines, besides being of a solid demonstration of musical technicality and refinement, easily impresses the most avid experts of the genre, constantly exhibiting a remarkable ability to display beautifully a surpassing degree of natural sounds in the form of waves. Departing from melodies that seems to be fully outlined with a very solid and mature basis of composition, the certainty of what these guys are doing will not only blow out your mind, but will make you feel their amazingly high level of confidence about what they are doing, and subsequently you will be positively sure that this is one of the most, daring and beautiful Post-Rock albums ever created.
I couldn’t point it out a single track highlighting itself from the others: the entire album, although each and every song has volatile elements and an identity of its own, is simply outstanding, consistent, very uniform and true to the elevating and fluctuating atmosphere of a genuine Post-Rock work of art. It’s beautiful melodies showcases not just their fresh and unusual capabilities to create magnificent, cohesive and lovely melodies, they strike fully constructed rainbows created by themselves, with an awkward but magical visionary sense of harmony, that never has limitations, but bound by its spheres of timeless renovation, the songs follow their own standard of rules fulfilling ships of variable notes by deconstructing their motivations to rearrange the melodies in its own cycles, while at the same time recreates them in exceedingly new patterns. Their ability to combine melancholy, serenity, conformity and hope in a new platform of songwriting proficiency is a daring and inconspicuous choice of the fearless rules they chose to follow themselves, bringing to life a daring method of musicality that they dominate with the mastery of fully matured artists, that will never stop pushing up the boundaries of the style they created for themselves, in the beautiful and astounding work of art that Stable as the Earth Stops Spinning managed to be.
After listening to this great work of art for the first time, probably – like me – you will immediately listen to it for a second time soon thereafter. With a very delicate, but strong pattern of harmonies, sometimes with its variable frequencies and somewhat irregular sequences, Stable as the Earth Stops Spinning is a very unique album, with an authentically resourceful and striking final result. I’m looking forward for what these guys will be doing next. Post-Rock enthusiasts will be stunned when listening this album. It is just simply too good to be true. But it is!
