Triumvir Foul - An Ode Of Blood And Fire

Today's metal escapades have somehow brought me back to the blood spilled, rotting flesh infected days of the nineties, where Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse and Napalm Death ruled the gory underworld and where album covers were censored because of the horrid images.  For some time I thought this scene was dead, overthrown by black metal and electronic filth.  But boy, was I wrong. Here's Triumvir Foul, an old-school death metal duo, preparing the world for an upcoming assault.  In other words, this scathing e.p. is the forerunner of a full-length coming later this year, if the world hasn't perished by then.

An Ode To Blood And Fire lasts for sixteen minutes but in those sixteen minutes Triumvir Foul demolishes everything in sight.  This 7" contains four tracks, the final one being an Autopsy cover.  The self-written tracks however are easily classifiable as brutal old-school death metal, often nudging towards its little brother, grindcore. Most of the time we're treated to blastbeats, ferocious riffs and deep, gutteral growls. The fact that this e.p. almost sounds like a basement-recording, makes the whole thing even better and more powerful. Truly an interesting piece of throw-back-ism...

Now my neck needs some rest...
