Void King hail from Indianapolis, IN, a city I mostly associate with racing. For some reason, whenever I see the name Indiana, I think of a racetrack with formula 1 cars speeding over the asphalt. Well, if you replace the formula one cars with monster trucks and the asphalt with your eardrums, you might get a decent idea about the sound of this album. This is massive, crushing, angry and best to be enjoyed loud.
The sound of Void King could be compared to early Danzig, mainly due to the strong vocal performance of Jason Kindred. Then, there are the delicious riffs of Tommy Miller and the solid rhythm section of Derek Felix (drums) & Chris Carroll (bass). I'm not exactly sure when this quartet formed but, judging from brilliant songs like 'Raise The Flags On Fire', 'Brandy Knew' and 'Box Of Knives', this is a well-attuned band.
If you're looking for good old fashioned doom metal, this certainly is something for you. There are some stunning killer-tracks on this thing, including the grinding 'Release The Hawks', which probably is my favorite on 'There Is Nothing'. So yes, I urge all doom fans to check this out and allow themselves to get crushed by this piece of work, to get overrun by the monster trucks of songs that Void King produce...
